Menfi-Bathily

UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily says that President Mohammed Menfi of the Presidential Council briefed him on the outcomes of his meeting in Cairo with the heads of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala.

"I expressed my gratitude to President Menfi and took note of the official statement produced at the end of the meeting. We agreed to follow up on the conclusions of the meeting," Bathily wrote on his X account on Monday.

The Arab League announced the outcomes of the Cairo tripartite meeting last Sunday, indicating an agreement to form a unified government to lead the Libyan elections, preserve Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reject any foreign interference.

The bloc also approved the formation of a technical committee concerning the political agreement and its appendices within a specified period to consider appropriate amendments to broaden the consensus base and acceptance of the work accomplished by the (6+6) Committee and resolve outstanding issues regarding disputed points according to existing legislation.

Additionally, the participants agreed to hold an urgent second round to finalize this agreement and put it into effect.
