The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) confirmed on Saturday that the former Al-Hilal player and coach, Adel Kadir, was killed under torture by the Internal Security Apparatus in Benghazi.
NCHRL explained in a statement that "Kadir", 58 years old, was killed under physical torture by members of the Internal Security Apparatus in Benghazi after his arrest and kidnapping on January 17, 2024, when he was leaving a mosque after Fajr (dawn) prayer.
It added that Kadir's body remained for several days in the mortuary in Al-Jalaa General Hospital in Benghazi before being buried in the past few days due to the victim family’s refusal to receive it without a forensic report documenting the cause of death, and that his body showed signs of torture.
NCHRL called on the Office of the Attorney General at the Benghazi Court of Appeal to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and ensure that those responsible for this crime are prosecuted and that they do not escape punishment and accountability.
