Interior Security Force in Al-Marij city arrested a radio personality – Hussein Rajab – who works at Al-Marij Radio for criticizing an order by the eastern military governor Abdelraziq Al-Nathori about banning foreigners from working at bakeries, shops and groceries to allow Libyans to work in their places.
“Rajab is under interrogation in Al-Marij’s interior security force building and he was probably arrested for his Facebook post criticizing Al-Nathori’s order.” Bawabat Al-Wasat website reported a source from the security force.
The arrest sparked outrage among journalists and media figures in Libya as well as social media activists, with some speaking out loud against the arrest and others posting shy criticism of it.
Some of Rajab’s coworkers denounced the arrest on social media with a hashtag calling for his release, however; no official details about his arrest have come out yet.
Meanwhile, the arrest came days after forming anti-electronic terror apparatus in east Libya, which was described as a step to undermine freedoms and to crackdown on opinions opposing the ruling authorities in the region.
Rajab is the head of news room at Al-Marij radio and he was arrested for posting criticism of Al-Nathori’s order, saying it had caused the closure of 40 shops in Al-Marij, asking about the possibility of applying the order in neighboring areas, hinting at the limit of Al-Nathori’s rule inside east Libya.
