Russia's ambassador to Libya Aydar Aghanin said Moscow's embassy in Tripoli resumed work with full staff in Libya's capital Tripoli, adding in a meeting with the Presidential Council's Deputy Head Mossa Al-Koni that his country supports the efforts of the Presidential Council aimed at achieving stability.
The Media Office of the Presidential Council said that the ambassador reviewed his country’s vision for developing Libyan-Russian relations in many fields, and stressed his country’s desire to increase the level of economic and academic cooperation, in addition to the interest in development projects for their contribution to achieving prosperity.
The ambassador confirmed his country's desire to activate the work of the joint committee that contributes to developing Libyan-Russian cooperation relations, and extended an invitation to Al-Koni to visit Moscow.
Al-Koni hailed the relations between Libya and Russia and ways to develop them in many fields to serve the interests of Libya and Russia, stressing work to activate the Libyan-Russian Joint Committee, activate previous agreements, and resume the implementation of suspended projects, especially the railway.
Al-Koni stressed that Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and the BRICS group, is a strategic partner for Libya in all fields due to its keenness on its stability, and supports the Libyan economy to achieve sustainable development. The meeting discussed the latest developments in the situation at the local and regional levels, and a number of political and economic files of common interest.
Al-Koni reaffirmed the Presidential Council's continued neutrality by supporting the efforts of the UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, which calls for a comprehensive dialogue aimed at ending the state of political impasse in order to hold elections in accordance with fair laws that lead to the election of a president who will lead the country to safety.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, and Al-Koni reiterated Libya’s firm position on the aggression, expressing his satisfaction with the Russian position toward the Israeli aggression, calling for continued unification of the international position toward the Palestinian Cause.
