View USGlobal website reported that Russia was transferring S-400 and S-300 missiles from Syria to eastern Libya. The website said that there were reports that Russia had been transferring advanced air defense systems and military equipment from its military base in Syria to Libya.
Russia has reportedly been discussing long-term leasing options for ports in eastern Libya, such as Benghazi and Tobruk, since last year after meeting with Haftar.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera English website said that Libya was the only practical alternative if Russia decided to withdraw all or some of its forces from Syria.
The website added: "It remains unclear what the sudden increase in Russian military forces might mean for troubled Libya, as well as the implications of a strengthened Russian presence so close to NATO borders."
Al Jazeera said that it had examined satellite images that showed no new construction at any of the Russian-Libyan airports or development of the Tobruk port.
