Several Tripoli-based security apparatuses and brigades rejected the decision of sacking the commander of Tripoli Military Zone, Abdulbasit Marwan and the appointment of a new commander, saying the authorities responsible for the decisions bear the responsibility of what repercussions this could bring about.

The signatories said in a statement on Friday sent to the Presidential Council as the Chief Commander of the Libyan Army, Defense Minister and Prime Minister, that Marwan had a crucial role in supporting the reactivation and building of the military institution.

They also expressed surprise at the decision and considered the Presidential Council's dismissal of Marwan based on foreign agenda that aims to keep the Libyan military institution fragmented.

The Presidential Council sacked Marwan on December 15, appointing in his place Abdulkader Mansour as the new commander of the Tripoli Military Zone.
