The Attorney General filed a criminal case against three defendants who deliberately coordinated illegal immigration operations that crossed the Libyan border through an organization linked to other networks which smuggle illegal immigrants across land and sea.

The Attorney General's Office said in a post on its official page that the Tripoli Criminal Court convicted the defendants, sentencing the first convict to a ten-year prison time, and a five-year prison sentence for the second and third convicts, confiscating the means of transportation they used to transport the illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Government of National Unity foiled an illegal immigration operation off Zureig Beach, west of the city of Misrata.

The Director of the Department explained in statements to the Libyan News Agency that the Marine Tasks Unit of the Special Tasks Department arrested 49 illegal immigrants, coming from the countries of Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Sudan, on a boat three kilometers from the seashore.
