A traffic accident on the Al-Shwerif road in southwest Libya has claimed the lives of seven people, among them children, the Ambulance and Emergency Service has confirmed.

Several other motorists were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment, according to the same source.

The tragic car crash took the lives of Suleiman Musa Amaka, his wife, Mufidah Muhammad Ali, and three of their children, according to family members.

The family was traveling from the coastal city of Sabratha to Sabha in the south.

Last September, the Ministry of Health announced that Libya topped the international list of traffic accident fatalities, with a rate of 73.4 percent, one death per 100,000 deaths, as Libya’s roads witness almost daily fatal traffic accidents due to dilapidated roads.
