The UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, reiterated in a meeting with Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, the call on all Libyan actors, including the leadership of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to facilitate the holding of elections through a clear and implementable agreement on a constitutional basis.

Bathily met with Tajani in Rome, he said on Twitter, adding that he had constructive meeting with Tajani on the political, economic and security developments in Libya.

He also said he had expressed his appreciation for Italy’s sustained support to UN efforts in facilitating elections in 2023.

"We also called on the international community to speak with one voice in support of the Libyan people’s aspiration for elections." Bathily said.

Meanwhile, Tajani said that Rome will work with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to preserve Libya's unity and hold elections in 2023, reaffirming that the stability of Libya is a priority for Italian foreign policy.
