Zintan, UNSMIL

The UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily visited  Zintan city on Tuesday as part of his continuous engagements with Libyans from all over the country, saying on his Twitter account that he had met with members of the municipal council, led by the Mayor Omran Al-Amyani, and others, including Major General, Osama Juweili.

Bathily felt a deep discontent with marginalization and exclusion, proliferation of arms, division of state institutions, and foreign interferences, saying that he had also noted readiness to help achieve national reconciliation and hold free and inclusive elections.

"I stressed the need for all stakeholders to engage in good faith to resolve contentious issues. Libyans should come together and heal the wounds of the past to restore Libya’s national sovereignty and its regional and international aura." He added.

Bathily indicated that he had reviewed with Juweili recent developments, stressing the need to build confidence between the various parties and overcome current divisions that threaten the unity of Libya and jeopardize the future of its people.

"It is time for political and security actors to show leadership, build bridges between all Libyans and create a conducive environment for inclusive and transparent elections, national reconciliation, and unification of the Libyan institutions." Bathily remarked.
