A senior military officer from Misrata criticized on Monday the US airstrikes in Sirte, saying they only aim to prolong the war against ISIS in the city.

The spokesperson of Misrata Military Council Brigadier Ibrahim Bait Al-Mal said during the evening debate program on Tanasuh TV the US airstrikes are useless.

“The airstrikes were useless and inaccurate and their aim is clear to all,” Bait Al-Mal noted.

He pointed out that the United States airstrikes can liberate Sirte in just hours but they only want the war against ISIS to continue.

“We can go without the US airstrikes from the beginning, but the government wants an endless war with limited airstrikes.” He underlined.

He also said that the Libyan Airforce airstrikes have achieved better results than the American ones.

The US airstrikes in Sirte began on August 01 following a request from the UN-installed government. AFRICOM, the US’ Africa command has declared that 201 airstrikes have been conducted since the beginning of Operation Odyssey.

US President Barack Obama is expected to extend the airstrikes for another month.
