The United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Maghreb and Egypt, Henry Wooster, said that the US is seeking to end the conflict in Libya and return to political dialogue.

Wooster added in his briefing regarding Russian interference in the Middle East, that Moscow is attempting to strengthen its presence in Libya, in order to expand its influence in the Mediterranean and on the African continent.

He added that Wagner’s support for Haftar’s forces led to an escalation in the conflict and encouraged him to continue his aggression against the capital.

He noted that the US would continue to pressure Russia, Turkey and the UAE, along with other countries to encourage Haftar to return to United Nations sponsored dialogue with the Government of National Accord.
