The Ministry of Defence is set to finalize a military agreement with the United States to bolster the Libyan Air Force. The planned agreement comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance defence collaboration between the two nations.

A meeting held Thursday at the Ministry of Defence in Tripoli brought together Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Adel Jumaa, Deputy Defence Minister Abdul-Salam Al-Zoubi, and US Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt. 

Discussions covered key areas of bilateral cooperation, including joint training programs for 2024 and proposed plans for 2025 aimed at strengthening Libyan military capacity.

Participants also reviewed the terms of the forthcoming agreement, emphasizing the importance of advancing Libya-US cooperation across all sectors. Talks included efforts to establish a unified Libyan state budget for 2025.

The US Embassy to Libya described the meeting as productive, with Berndt commending Libya’s efforts to unify its military and security institutions. He reiterated US support for enhancing professional security forces throughout Libya.
