The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya held Khalifa Haftar's self-styled army responsible for the increasing number of forced disappearance in Benghazi
Famous writer abducted in Libya’s Benghazi
Libyan writer and civil society activist Jaber Al-Obaidi was kidnapped in the eastern city of Benghazi on Tuesday.
While his whereabouts remained unknown, social media activists and friends of Al-Obaidi pointed the finger at a militia group affiliated with Benghazi Security Department.
According to sources, Al-Obaidi is a critic of UAE interference in the country and the influence of the Salafists groups “Madkhalis” within Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled Libyan national army.
His friends claimed that Al-Obaidi was accused of selling arms in the city, a silly charge that is hard to believe.
The city’s writers and intellectuals have demanded his immediate release and condemned the extrajudicial arrests by the city’s armed groups.
Earlier, an armed group abducted Khalifa Haftar's advisor, Mohammed Al-Madani, with some news claiming that two cars from the “General Command” intercepted him and tucked him in.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) expressed deep concern about what it said “the increasing number of forced disappearance in Benghazi during this month of June.”
The NCHRL held the “General Command” of Dignity Operation and Benghazi Security Department responsible for the abduction and forced disappearance in Benghazi in particular and in east Libya in general.
