Al-Ahly Benghazi's journey in the CAF Champions League came to an early end after a 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal of Sudan in the return leg of the preliminary round on Sunday. The match, held at Juba Stadium in South Sudan, saw both teams score once, but more was needed for the Libyan side to progress.
Al-Ahly Benghazi took an early lead thanks to a goal from their foreign player, John Manu, maintaining their advantage throughout the first half. However, after the break, Al-Hilal Sudan responded with an equalizer from Abu Aqila, who found the back of the net from a set piece, levelling the score at 1-1.
The draw was enough to send Al-Hilal into the next round, as they had already secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg at Benina Stadium.
This result marks a disappointing early exit for Al-Ahly Benghazi, who had hoped to make a deeper run in this year's CAF Champions League.
