The Arab Center for Climate Change has called on international organizations and rescue teams to speed up rescue operations in the city of Derna, to avoid severe weather conditions that may hinder the work of the teams, since the infrastructure situation is destroyed there.
The center indicated that the current surface temperatures in the Mediterranean basin are warmer due to the hot air mass rushes from Africa towards North Africa and Southern Europe.
Director of the Center, Ahmed Al-Arbeed, said that the rise in water surface temperature is one of the most important causes of storm formation, as the temperature difference resulting from the approach of cold to hot masses leads to its increase and the emergence of strong weather disturbances that turn into depressions, storms, and hurricanes.
