The UN has conducted the first humanitarian evacuation flight this year, which carried around 100 asylum seekers from Libya to Italy, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya has confirmed.

According to the UNHCR, the first flight targeted children and women at risk, survivors of violence, and people with critical medical conditions.

It indicated that some migrants were recently released while others remain in detention by human trafficking networks.

The evacuation flights from Libya to Italy, which have been suspended for more than two years, have transferred more than 1,100 refugees from 2017 to date, according to the Italian Foreign Ministry.
