The Foreign Minister of Fathi Bashagha's government, Hafez Kaddour, has asked all Libyan diplomatic missions, consulates and embassies abroad to shun the Government of National Unity (GNU) and stop dealing with it, calling in a letter to all relevant bodies not to approve the decisions of the GNU and listen to those of the Bashagha government as “it's the only legitimate governing body for Libyans,” and threatening legal procedures against any violations.

Kaddour said Bashagha's government gained the vote of confidence by the House of Representatives and the GNU’s confidence was withdrawn on September 21 last year, adding that the GNU’s mandate ended before being able to hold parliamentary and presidential elections on December 24.

He reiterated the statement of House of Representatives’ Speaker Aqila Saleh who permitted Bashagha's government to start operating in Sirte as PM Bashagha announced starting his duties from there last Tuesday.
