The United Nations (UN) envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily reaffirmed in a meeting Sunday with the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) the continued support of the UNSMIL and the international community for Libyan elections, hailing the level of preparations shown by the HNEC, which qualifies it to hold elections that live up to internationally-recognized standards.

The statement stated that the meeting between Emad Al-Sayeh and Bathily reviewed a number of issues related to the electoral process, the latest developments, and ways to support the proposals and steps taken in this regard. They also discussed ways to provide technical and advisory support, which could enhance the HNEC's readiness and create a suitable environment for the holding of elections.
