The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to convene a session on the status of Libya, during which the UN's Special Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, will provide a bi-monthly briefing on February 15th, highlighting the political, security, and humanitarian developments in the country.

As per the UNSC website, the Chairman of the Sanctions Committee on Libya, Japanese Ambassador Yamazaki Kazuyuki, is also scheduled to provide a detailed account of the committee's activities, with an expectation that SC members will reiterate their call for Libyan parties to respond to Bathily's invitation for dialogue, aimed at achieving a consensus on the conduct of elections.

The site speculated that the SC members might consider adopting a presidential statement or issuing a press release that includes these messages, among them supporting the political momentum towards conducting elections to unify the Libyan government and enhance a common political ground among the competing legislative councils to agree on electoral laws.
