The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and the UN envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, agreed during a meeting on Monday on the urgency of redoubling efforts to break the political stalemate and allow citizens to choose their own leadership and restore legitimacy to all institutions, thus preserving stability, the unity and sovereignty of the country.

This came in a meeting held in the capital, Tripoli, during which the European Ambassador affirmed the Union’s determined support for his mediation to move beyond the fragile and divided status quo through an inclusive political agreement between key stakeholders to take the country to national elections.
