Iraq’s chargé d’affaires in Tripoli, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, has announced the release of five Iraqis detained in Libya for attempting illegal migration.
Their release follows three months of diplomatic efforts involving coordination with the Government of National Unity. The individuals had entered Libya illegally, hoping to migrate to Europe.
The Iraqi embassy provided them with medical care, housing, and travel documents for their voluntary return.
Al-Sahhaf warned young migrants against falling victim to human trafficking networks and confirmed ongoing efforts to repatriate more detained Iraqis.
