The Italian Embassy in Tripoli has welcomed the willingness of the Government of National Accord to observe a humanitarian truce in Tripoli in order to address the challenge of the coronavirus epidemic.

In a statement on Saturday, the embassy condemned the shelling on the residential areas in Tripoli including last night’s rocket attacks on the Old Town, an ancient walled city dating back to the Ottoman and Roman times, by warlord Haftar’s armed groups.

The embassy appealed to warlord Haftar to stop his hostilities, demanding Libyan parties to agree on the ceasefire draft in the framework of the 5+5 military talks.
