locusts

Head of the National Committee for Desert Locust Control, Salah Embarek,  has decided during an emergency meeting to form task forces to tackle this pest, as several cities in southern Libya, including Ghat, Zuwaila, and Wadi Atba, are struggling with a desert locust outbreak.

The affected areas require four-wheel-drive cars, spraying equipments, and pesticides.

Previously, teams deployed to the southeastern Ghat area successfully combated locusts over an area of 30 hectares. According to the committee’s spokesperson, Hussein Al-Briki, the total treated area in Ghat has now reached 285 hectares, as reported by the Libyan News Agency.
