Libya's Coast Guard has reported 11 migrants dead after an attempt to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Europe failed last Thursday.

According to the Moral Guidance Department of the Libyan army, a dilapidated boat carrying more than 130 migrants was found drifting northwest of Khums city.

The vessel Ras Ijdir of the Coast Guard and Port Security managed to rescue 125 migrants, while11 bodies were recovered from the boat, the department confirmed.

It indicated that the migrants came from African countries and included women and children.

The survivors were helped ashore and given humanitarian and medical assistance, according to the same source.
