The Libyan Consulate in Istanbul on Wednesday urged the Libyan community residing in the city to exercise caution and remain close to their places of residence, carrying their identification documents.
This advice follows the announcement by the Governor of Istanbul banning all gatherings and demonstrations from March 19 to March 23. The advice also came following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The authorities have arrested the mayor on charges of corruption and ties with terrorist groups, according to Turkish media. He was arrested along with over 100 other people on varying charges, Turkish media said.
