The Council of Research and Sharia Studies at the Libyan Fatwa House has issued a fatwa prohibiting the use of the Russian-printed currency issued by the parallel Al-Bayda-based Central Bank of Libya.
"The issuance of currency from an unauthorized party would harm the economy of the country on a large scale," the fatwa read.
It further pointed out that those who issued this counterfeit currency are using it to finance their war waged on Tripoli.
The Council called on the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Central Bank of Libya to address the Russian government and hold it responsible for dealing with outlaws, in addition to informing the relevant international institutions of these violations.
