The head of the Presidential Council (PC), Mohammed Menfi, said that it is necessary to concentrate on strengthening relations with Russia, stressing the relevance of Moscow’s role in the success of the political process and stability in Libya.

This came during his meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, in New York on the side-lines of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a statement published by the PC.

According to the statement, Lavrov praised the steps taken recently by the PC to release a number of prisoners within the framework of the national reconciliation project, reiterating the necessity for the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign forces at the same time from Libya and to move ahead with the reconciliation project to ensure that the elections are held on time.
