The World Organization Against Torture (Organisation Mondiale Contre la Torture; OMCT), has stated that the European Union and Italy's cooperation with Libya to curb migration across the Mediterranean Sea is marred by human rights concerns.

The OMCT added that migrants intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guard and returned to Libya face numerous violations, while many die at sea or go missing.

The organization explained that this situation demands immediate action, pointing out that funding the Libyan Coast Guard should be conditional on respect for fundamental human dignity and compliance with international law.
