The Benghazi Security Directorate has directed its departments to take legal measures against any person who refuses to deal with the 50 dinar banknote.

The Directorate said in a letter to the heads of the General Investigation, Rescue and Criminal Investigation departments and police stations that the parallel government confirms the validity of the circulation of this category in accordance with the legislation in force.

It also indicated that withdrawing or issuing any banknote is preceded by a warning period of no less than six months, explained that rejecting the banknote in circulation is a crime punishable by law and affects the national economy, according to the statement.

The parallel government had considered in a statement that what was stated in the Central Bank’s letter had no legal or procedural basis in accordance with the legislation in force.
