Five municipalities of Tripoli have condemned the decision of the Presidential Council (PC) of relieving Major General, Abdul Basit Marwan from his position as Commander of the Tripoli Military District, demanding the PC to revoke the decision.

In a statement, the municipalities of Souq Jomaa, Abu Salim, Ein Zara, Hai Andalus, and Tripoli Center considered Marwan's dismissal an absurd decision, noting that “it aggravated the situation and contributed to breaching security standards in the capital, Tripoli, and its purpose was just to create chaos and strife”.

The municipalities emphasized the privacy of the military institution, pointing out that this decision, especially at this historical time of the country, when everyone is preparing for the elections, is really surprising and preoccupying, as they put it.
