A truck carrying illegal immigrants ran over three security personnel at Al-Baydan security checkpoint south of Ajdabiya, causing severe injuries to the officers.
A security official in Ajdabiya said that members of Ajdabiya Security Department opened fire on the truck while trying to get away and arrested all the immigrants.
The shooting resulted in the killing of one immigrant of an Egyptian nationality and the wounding of others.
Al-Baydan district is experiencing a spike of activity of armed gangs who are involved in smuggling Egyptian immigrants from the eastern border to the city of Ajdabiya.
