Two residents of the Sultan area, approximately 50km east of the city of Sirte, lost their lives having been exposed to a landmine explosion and were pronounced dead on the spot.

A source close to the two deceased individuals said that the explosion occurred whilst the young men were attempting to cut the mines open in order to extract the explosives, which was intended to be used in fishing operations off the Sirte coast.

This practice is used to obtain large quantities of fish for the purpose of selling at the market, according to the same source.
