The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has warned of the price increase in food in some countries, including Libya, due to the current situation in Ukraine.

“Ukraine is one of the world's largest suppliers of wheat, especially to developing countries”, Greenfield added, saying that Russia's actions could lead to hunger in countries such as Libya, Yemen and Lebanon.

The value of Ukraine's wheat exports amounted to $3.1 billion in 2019, according to data of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 43% of wheat in Libya is imported from Ukraine.
