CBL reforms

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for North Africa, Joshua Harris, has commended advancements in transparency and governance aimed at securing the independence of Libya's Central Bank from political influences.

Harris made these remarks during a meeting with the bank’s governor, Najee Muhammad Issa, in Washington on Monday, where US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, was also present.

The US officials welcomed the recent appointments of the Central Bank's governor, deputy, and board members, and expressed support for the bank’s initiatives to ensure liquidity, improve banking services, regulate the foreign exchange market, and strengthen governance in Libya's banking sector. Economic policy cooperation to promote stability was also discussed.
