Mass Graves

The General Authority for Finding and Identifying Missing Persons announced that its specialized teams had extracted 13 new bodies on Monday from Baer Al-Usta Milad cemetery in Tajoura, which was discovered a few days ago saying it dates back to the period when Gaddafi's brigades controlled the area in 2011.

The Authority confirmed its determination to continue its tireless efforts to uncover the fate of the missing and provide support for their families. It confirmed on its Facebook page that the bodies were examined and samples were taken from a number of them, in cooperation between the Departments of Search for Remains and Forensic Medicine at the Authority.

The Authority noted that the Laboratory Department is working on the samples taken to analyze them via DNA and match them with the database registered with the Authority.

On Sunday, the Authority announced that its teams were able to extract 27 bodies from the Baer Al-Usta Milad cemetery in Tajoura within 48 hours, bringing the number of bodies to 73.

With the addition of the 13 bodies that were dug out on Monday, the total number of bodies has become 86. The teams continue their work at the cemetery site since the announcement of its discovery in the Baer Al-Usta Milad area in Tajoura on October 20, as the authority is working to take DNA samples before reburying those bodies in cooperation with the Public Prosecution.
