The Red Crescent in Derna said that its recovery team had buried 49 different human remains, which were exhumed from the Al-Sahaba Cemetery by the floods that barreled through the city after Storm Daniel had hit the city on September 10 and 11.

The Red Crescent explained that the burial took place in the Al-Fatayeh Cemetery after Saturday Asr prayers, following the completion of all legal procedures by the Military Prosecution in Derna and the forensic medicine department affiliated with the city’s judicial branch.

Al-Sahaba Cemetery was severely damaged as a result of the floods in Derna. Al-Sahaba Mosque, east of the city, was also damaged.

The Cemetery contained the remains of more than 70 "Muslim companions" who were part of the Islamic conquest in North Africa.
