The candidate for Prime Minister position within the House of Representatives’ (HoR) Khalid Al-Baybas denied that he had withdrawn his candidacy contrary to the announcement of HoR Speaker Aqila Saleh, who said in a session last Thursday that Al-Baybas had to pull out from the race and thus Fathi Bashagha – the second candidate – was automatically elected as PM.
Al-Baybas said in a video statement posted on his Facebook page that he had filed the required paperwork for the PM position on February 05 and his candidacy was accepted, but he was surprised to hear Saleh’s announcement that he had withdrawn.
“I haven't withdrawn neither by a written statement nor by a verbal announcement to the HoR and regarding the recommendations of the High Council of State, the HoR voted in an official session to exclude the state council from the recommendations to a new PM.” He added.
