The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council Mossa Al-Koni reaffirmed in a telephone conversation with the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, on Friday evening Libya's support for the constitutional and legal system in Niger, stressing that the safety of the Nigerien President and the security of the neighboring country as well as its stability by the establishment of legitimacy and the democratic process entailed the security of Libya and the region.
Al-Koni added that finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Niger is at the top of Libya's list of priorities to spare Niger and the region the horrors of wars, armed conflicts, and ethnic fighting that would impact “the region and the world.”
“The security and stability of Niger, which has with Libya history, geography, and kinship, is part of the security and stability of Libya and the entire Sahel and Sahara region." Al-Koni said.
Since July 26, Niger has been witnessing rapid developments, following the overthrow of President Bazoum by the Republican Guard in a coup backed by the army two days later, announcing the suspension of the constitution and the formation of a National Council as well as an interim government.
