Local authorities in Libya’s southeastern Municipality of Al-Kufra have raised concerns over a sharp increase in Sudanese migrants crossing the border, saying it is hindering efforts to provide aid and maintain accurate records.

Mayor Abdelrahman Aqoub told local media that an estimated 500 people are arriving daily, placing growing pressure on already stretched municipal resources.

“The land border between Sudan and Libya is vast and difficult to control,” he said. “This wave of migration is making it extremely challenging to monitor arrivals or repatriate individuals.”

Aqoub noted that international support has been limited, and the municipality lacks the capacity to address the growing humanitarian needs.

“We are suffering from a shortage in all aspects — from resources to international aid,” he added.
