The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, met on Monday with the Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Koury, and her accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed procedures related to preparing for the municipal elections, which will be announced early next month.

The two sides also reviewed the positions of the political parties regarding the electoral process in general, and municipal council elections in particular, as well as the impact of these positions on the possibility of their implementation and their chances of success.

The meeting discussed the extent of the executive authority’s contribution to supporting the efforts made by the HNEC to implement the municipal elections, and the financial and security support these authorities provide.

They also reviewed the challenges facing the support project managed by the United Nations Development Program in Libya, reiterating the need for taking urgent decisions regarding advancing the project to support electing municipal councils.
