The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has visited the Tripoli International Airport and Qasir Benghashir district, where clashes have been ongoing since last Wednesday.
The Sunday afternoon visit was for Al-Sirraj and commanders of Tripoli, western and central military zones' commanders, Interior Minister and the commander of the joint operations room.
The visit aimed at monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire in southern Tripoli as well as the security arrangements for the capital and its suburbs, according to the media office of Al-Sirraj.
The media office of Al-Sirraj added that they discussed the handing of control of the airport to the concerned authorities via the Interior Ministry.
Prior to the visit, Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha met with the military commanders and security officers, briefing Al-Sirraj about the security status in southern Libya and about the coordination to enhance work of security and military apparatuses in Tripoli.
Fighting in Tripoli's southern parts broke out last Wednesday between the 7th Brigade and Tripoli Protection Force.
According to the Injured Person's Affairs Department of the Health Ministry, 16 people died including 4 civilians and 65 were injured due to the fighting.
