Sources from the city of Al-Bayda reported the death of citizen Ashraf Al-Mismari in the internal security prisons of Khalifa Haftar’s forces in Benghazi. The sources explained to the media that the authority responsible for the prison informed Al-Mismari’s family and relatives in Al-Bayda of his death on Tuesday, without revealing the circumstances and causes of death.

It is noteworthy that an armed group in Al-Bayda arrested Al-Mismari and a number of other citizens in Al-Bayda because of their condemnation of the security situation in the city, and the attack on the Al-Akhdar Club delegation before their match against Al-Hilal in the Premier League on May 27.

The city of Al-Bayda witnessed a massive protest denouncing the attack on the delegation of Al-Akhdar players and fans in Benghazi. During the protest, photos of Haftar and his sons were torn down, with people denouncing Khalid Haftar and accusing him of being the one who caused the attack because Al-Akhdar’s withdrawal from the competition benefits Al-Hilal Club, which is headed by Khalid's brother-in-law.

Recently, there have been repeated incidents of the deaths of citizens after their arrest in Internal Security prisons, perhaps the most recent of which was the death of activist Siraj Daghman in late April, 6 months after his arrest because of his participation in a workshop discussing the causes of the collapse of the Derna dams, while the fate of those who were arrested with them remains unknown.
