Gunmen suspected to be linked to IS terrorist group attacked El Agheila checkpoint and police station some 120 kilometers to western Ajdabiya city, setting the station on fire and burning a number of vehicles on the way out.

Emhemed Megaryef Hospital in Ajdabiya said two bodies and three injuries arrived in the hospital after the attack.

El Agheila police station chief Muftah Rahil confirmed the attack saying the gunmen burnt an ambulance among the vehicles and placed IS flag atop the building.

The senior commander in Khalifa Haftar’s forces in the area, Fawzi Al-Mansouri, said they tracked down the gunmen and left some of them killed or injured, adding that heavy clashes took place in Jafr area where the gunmen were spotted after the attack.

“We also seized some of their vehicles while we lost a fighter due to clashes with the militants. Military backup is expected to arrive to root those terrorists out from the area.” He told reporters.
