The health minister in the parallel government of Fathi Bashagha took the oath of office at the reception room of the private house of parliament speaker Aqaila Saleh on Saturday.

The procedure sparked mockery on social media as the oath of office should have been taken in the parliament, not at home.

Parliament spokesperson Abdullah Bilheq said health minister Othman Abdul-Jalil was sworn in by Aqaila at his house because he couldn’t come to the parliament building in Tobruk last Thursday for the government swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier, parliament member Ibrahim Al-Dirsi revealed that Cyrenaica ministers and senior officials in Bashagha’s government were selected during a lunch banquet hosted by Aqaila Saleh in his house and all attendees left with satisfaction after securing senior positions in the government for their relatives.
