The UN Security Council will hold its bi-monthly briefing on the situation in Libya, during which the UN envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, will brief the Security Council on the recent political, security and humanitarian developments in the country.

The latest report of the Secretary-General on the UN Mission in Libya will also be presented during the session.

The Security Council website showed that the work programme will include a session on the 7th December that reviews the report of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in addition to another session to be held on the 18th December that includes a briefing for UNSMIL and consultations with Security Council members about its work.

The Security Council Report website, affiliated with the Security Council, said in a report that supporting the political momentum towards holding national elections to unify the divided Libyan government remains the Council’s primary issue.

In this context, one of the important goals is to help strengthen common political ground between the competing legislative councils in the country to agree on electoral laws, it added.
