The Stability Support Apparatus, operating under the Interior Ministry, said clashes in downtown Tripoli on Monday night were just “a simple dispute and rift among siblings (friends) and was resolved by the elders.

The Apparatus said on Facebook that some media outlets took the incident too far and exaggerated the situation, urging for accurate and factual reporting.

Footage on social media showed clashes between two armed groups on Al-Sarim St. near Passports Building in Tripoli, as smoke was seen in the area from the medium weapons used by the clashing sides.

Activists said the clashes were between Al-Nawasi Brigade and Stability Support Apparatus regarding a security post that quickly escalated to gunfire exchange.
