Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has lauded the statement issued by leaders at the Jeddah Security and Development Summit on Saturday, which called for holding elections and the need for all mercenaries to leave Libya.
"Every day, the international position is becoming clearer in rejecting the existence of a new transitional phase. We commend the role of the United States and all friendly countries for their firm stance in supporting stability in our country," the PM tweeted on Saturday.
On Saturday, Saudi Arabia announced the conclusion of the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development, which witnessed the participation of the US president and leaders of the Arab Gulf states, in addition to the Jordanian king, the Egyptian president, and the Iraqi prime minister.
The final communique from leaders reiterated "support for efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis in accordance with Security Council resolutions... and the necessity of holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, besides the exit of all foreign fighters and mercenaries without delay."
The statement also reaffirmed support for the unification of military institutions under UN supervision, expressing their appreciation for Egypt's hosting of the Libyan constitutional dialogue in a way that supports the political process backed by the United Nations.
