The Municipality of Derna issued a statement Thursday saying the siege laid by Dignity Operation to the city is still in effect, thus worsening the already-miserable humanitarian situation of the city.
The municipality said that the highway (Derna- Al-Fatayeh-Martouba) has not been opened yet as the reopening of roads included only a sand road that was very tough for the trucks to pass through, adding that the cash which arrived in the city’s banks was enough only for one day leading to assault on the banks by the residents as they failed to cash out their salaries.
“The fuel that arrived in the city is not enough and that is why it led to the rowdiness of people and cars at the gas stations, while other residents had to go to other districts to get fuel.” The statement reads.
It also added that the checkpoints on the roads in eastern and western the city are continuously preventing people from bringing the fuel used for power generators inside the city, which is going through long-hour power outages.
“There are obstacles put in the way of the trucks that carry medicines, foods and the commodities of the Prices Balance Fund in Derna.” The statement elaborated.
Earlier, the so-called Omar Al-Mukhtar brigade of Khalifa Haftar’s militias announced that it had ended the siege on Derna after agreeing on a truce by some of Derna’s notables and the Chief of Staff of the Tobruk-based House of Representiaves.
