The investigative platform "Eekad" revealed a huge military expansion of Russian forces in Libyan bases, the largest of their kind in the heart of Libya, and documented more than one air bridge led by Russian military cargo planes toward Brak Al-Shati base since last March.
Eekad said in a report that Brak Al-Shati base witnessed changes in infrastructure starting last March, ranging from building new facilities to renovating existing facilities, and it also monitored changes in four other strategic military bases located in central and northern Libya: Al-Jufra, Al-Gardabiya, Al-Khadim, and the port of Tobruk.
Eekad also documented air bridges to Al-Jufra base via Russian military cargo planes since late November. It said that many of these flights coincided with reports monitoring the arrival of Russian forces to the base, in addition to evidence of the base being used for Russian corps reinforcements.
Eekad explained that Russia exploited Libya as a gateway to expand into Africa by strengthening the presence of the Russian Corps and equipping the military infrastructure in Libyan bases such as Brak Al-Shati and Al-Jufra to be a starting point to increase its regional influence and expand Russian hegemony in the African continent.
